Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

I also practice Emotional Freedom Technique and I am a EFT Matrix reimprinting (EFTMR) member.Picture showing the basic tapping points on the body

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is the most exciting, powerful technique to come out of the last decade! It is one of the new ‘Energy Psychologies’ and is rooted in the ancient Chinese meridian energy system. It’s like an emotional form of acupuncture, minus the needles – you simply tap energy meridian points on your body, with your fingertips.

EFT is based on the discovery theory that all negative emotions are the result of disruptions in the body’s energy system. This approach has been around for over 5,000 years, and Albert Einstein told us in the 1920’s that everything is made up of energy. Western medicine seems to have over looked this major component in healing, until now and the breakthrough of EFT.

Essentially, EFT relieves symptoms by tapping various body points as we tune into, or focus on the problem. This tapping balances energy meridians that have become disrupted when we think about or experience an emotionally disturbing circumstance. Once balanced, the upset is usually resolved – the memory stays but the emotional charge is gone.

The founder of EFT, Gary Craig, is a Stamford engineer, an NLP Master and ordained priest, so has many varied past experiences and approaches. He trained with the psychologist Roger Callaghan, who had been studying kinesiology and acupuncture. Callaghan had found that an anxiety patient of his felt her anxiety about water in her stomach, so using his recently learned knowledge, he had her tap the stomachmeridian point below her eye, and to his astonishment, she proclaimed that her fear had gone and she rushed to his swimming pool to feel the water! Years later, her fear of water had never returned.

After many such miraculous ‘cures’, where other methods had failed, Callaghan developed TFT – thought field therapy, working with the body’s 14 energy pathways. He developed specific algorithms for each symptom or issue and TFT proved to be fairly complex to learn. Gary Craig, searching for the simplest way to use this therapy, found that 14 points were always included in each algorithm, irrelevant of the presenting symptom, so tried just tapping these points for every single problem. The results were outstanding and EFT was born.

EFT is safe, gentle, portable and user friendly. It can be applied by the client themselves from the minute they leave a session, and there are not many therapies that can safely say that!

EFT is effective wheremany other treatments have failed and amazingly, the same technique is applied for anything, be it fear of public speaking or improving your golf handicap. It really is the most incredible therapeutic intervention I have ever had the privilege to work with and is as simple as it is effective.
